About Me
Would you rather be a link on a chain or a facet on a crystal? Visit my PCDB Blog.
PILATES/Influences: I began learning pilates in NYC in 1981 with Carola Trier and her assistants, and I continued with Deborah L. I have taken workshops with most of the first generation teachers, namely Eve G., Kathy G., Ron F., Mary B., and Jay G., but I have never met Romana K. Besides my apprenticeship with mentors Brenda A. and Mary K. (I began teaching in 1986), my most noteworthy influences include my studies in dance (BFA, Juilliard), anatomy, somatics (I love Trager!), and phenomenology, and more, and of course, especially my collaborations/interactions with my amazing colleagues, coworkers, and wonderful clients. The learning continues....
PROFESSIONALIZATION: As a teacher, studio owner (since 1992), employer, and curriculum innovator, I have watched and been a part of the pilates professionalization effort since 1991. I was a founding member of the Institute for the Pilates Method (now PMI, 1992-98) and the PMA (2000-08), and in 2008, became a proud member of the United Pilates Collective. I began a grass roots cooperative called AIM Academy for Somatic Integration, offering Free Gatherings and information designed to create community and excellence in teaching and cooperative networking. I am wholeheartedly interested in supporting the pilates community towards preserving the full scope of Contrology and evolving its teaching techniques, and I am committed to building community and communication between pilates teachers committed to the practice of Contrology that allows us to be ready to respond to policy issues that may affect our values.
For community-oriented info concerning legislative issues and more, please visit the AIM Academy Forum, a Guest Forum located under the Pilates Discussion Section of the PCDB. Also, please visit the AIM Academy for Somatic Integration website, or, for more information, feel free to contact me @ this address: Email me.
For more info about my offerings as a Pilates (student since 1981, teaching since 1986) and General Movement Practitioner, or my studio, I'd love to hear from you here: Email me.
Have a great day!
